About Edgescape Landscape & Design

Owner-operated paver, hardscape, and landscape contractor for Monmouth County, NJ homeowners.

Edgescape is Owner-Operated by Jose Velasquez

Edgescape Landscape & Design is owner-operated by Jose Velasquez. Jose is on site for every project, from the first walk-through and estimate through final cleanup. There is no project manager who shows up to the quote and disappears. There is no rotating crew. The same small team handles excavation, base prep, installation, and finish work on every paver, retaining wall, and landscape job, with Jose running it from start to finish.

That model is intentional. Most contractors scale by adding crews and subcontractors, which means the homeowner buying a paver patio is several steps removed from the people actually doing the work. Edgescape stays small on purpose so the work stays consistent. The crew that built the patio Jose showed you in the portfolio is the same crew that will build yours.

How Edgescape Approaches the Work

The work that holds up is the work nobody sees. A paver patio looks the same on installation day whether the base was dug to 4 inches or 12 inches, whether the soil got geotextile fabric or didn’t, whether drainage was engineered or skipped. The difference shows up in year three, year five, year ten. That is the work Edgescape protects.

Every paver project starts with excavation to 8 to 12 inches, depending on the application and soil. We compact the crushed-stone base in lifts. We install geotextile fabric where the soil requires it. We run drainage where the site needs it. We lock every install with proper edge restraints. None of this shows in the finished photo. All of it shows in whether the installation is still flat and tight five years later.

The same logic runs through every service. Retaining walls fail at the drainage and the backfill, not the surface, so we install perforated drainage pipe, filter fabric, and gravel backfill behind every wall, plus geogrid where the wall height requires it. Landscape installations fail at the soil prep and the grading, not the planting, so we assess drainage on every job before any plant goes in the ground. The pattern is consistent: do the parts that don’t show, correctly.

What Edgescape Does and Doesn't Do

Edgescape is a residential contractor in Monmouth County, NJ. That sentence has three words that matter: residential, Monmouth County, and contractor. The way we run the business follows from those three words.

What we do:

  • Show up to every estimate with Jose Velasquez. The owner walks the property, takes measurements, and prices the work. No salesperson, no estimator who hands the project off after the deal closes.
  • Write itemized estimates. Every quote spells out materials, base depth, drainage approach, and timeline so homeowners can compare apples to apples against other contractors.
  • Run one project at a time per crew. The same team starts and finishes your project without disappearing for two weeks to handle three other jobs.

What we don’t do:

  • Commercial work. Edgescape’s model only works at residential scale. Commercial projects require a different crew structure than we run, and we would rather say no than overstretch.
  • Sales pressure. Estimates are written, itemized, and given without follow-up calls trying to close the deal. Homeowners who want to think it over get to think it over.
  • Lowball bids we can’t deliver on. Edgescape’s pricing reflects what the work actually costs to do correctly. We are not the cheapest paver contractor in Monmouth County, and we do not try to be.
